Goi Peace Foundation/UNESCO International Essay Contest 2018 for Young People (USD1,000+ Prize & Fully Funded to Japan)

Application Deadline: June 15, 2018 (23:59 your local time).
The Goi Peace Foundation annual essay contest is organized in an effort to harness the energy, creativity and initiative of the world’s youth in promoting a culture of peace and sustainable development. It also aims to inspire society to learn from the young minds and to think about how each of us can make a difference in the world.
*This program is an activity of the UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

1. Essays may be submitted by anyone up to 25 years old (as of June 15, 2018) in one of the following age categories: a) Children (ages up to 14) b) Youth (ages 15 – 25)
2. Essays must be 700 words or less in English, French, Spanish or German, or 1600 characters or less in Japanese, excluding essay title and cover page. Essays may be typed or printed.
3. Entries may be submitted by postal mail or online.
* IMPORTANT: To send your essay online, you must go to the online registration page and follow the required steps.
Entries submitted by postal mail must include a cover page (free format) indicating
(1) category (Children or Youth) (2) your essay title (3) your name (4) address (5) phone number (6) e-mail (7) nationality (8) age as of June 15, 2018 (9) gender (10) school name (if applicable) (11) word count.
Teachers and youth directors may submit a collection of essays from their class or group. Please enclose a list of participants’ names, ages and the name and contact information of the submitting teacher or director.
* Entries missing any of the above information will not be considered.
* Goi Peace are unable to confirm receipt of essays.
Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized entries will be rejected.
Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.
Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizer.

The following awards will be given in the Children’s category and Youth category respectively:
  • 1st Prize: Certificate, prize of 100,000 Yen (approx. US$880 as of January 2018) and gift … 1 entrant
  • 2nd Prize: Certificate, prize of 50,000 Yen (approx. US$440 as of January 2018) and gift … 2 entrants
  • 3rd Prize: Certificate and gift … 5 entrants
  • Honorable Mention: Certificate and gift … 25 entrants
* 1st prize winners will be invited to the award ceremony to be held in Tokyo, Japan on November 23, 2018
and will receive the Minister of Education Award. (Travel expenses will be covered by the organizer.)
* Additional awards (Recognition for Effort, Best School Award, School Incentive Award) will be given if applicable.
* All prize winners will be announced on October 31, 2018 (Japan time) on this website. Certificates and gifts will be mailed to the winners in December 2018.

Kaduna State Government Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship for Young Nigerian Leaders 2018

The Government of Kaduna State in Nigeria is inviting applications for its inaugural Fellowship program target at young Nigerians from ages 25-35 years.

About the Award: Kaduna State Government is set to introduce its inaugural class of the Kashim Ibrahim Fellows Programme commencing in June, 2018. The programme’s objective is to develop and nurture leadership ability across Nigeria, with specific focus on the promising leaders of the future.

The one-year programme aims to create a network of high potential young Nigerians who are expected to rise to top leadership positions in the public sector and other spheres of activity over the next decade.

The overall mission of the non-partisan programme, as envisioned by His Excellency, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, is in his words, “to raise the next generation of leaders who will most likely be absorbed into the Nigerian public sector having had a first-hand experience of its workings and challenges”

Kashim Ibrahim Fellows Programme comprises of four components, namely;

Work Placement
Education Programme
Community Service

Type: Fellowship (Professional)

Eligibility: To be eligible as a Kashim Ibrahim Fellow, applicants must demonstrate a public interest orientation.

Selection Criteria:The most important criterion is to have a real commitment to put your new leadership skills into use to benefit your community, State and Nigeria upon the successful completion of the programme.

Selection Criteria Include:

Diversity: The programme will admit sixteen (16) Fellows representing diverse ethnic, religious, and gender backgrounds, with varied educational, economic, and geographic experiences; working from all angles and with different perspectives to strengthen their communities and civic life.
An established record of integrity and exemplary achievement.
Commitment to engaging in crucial issues and to making a difference at the national or international level.
Promise of a future career of leadership and notable impact.
Special capacity for critical, creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic thinking.
Commitment to a rigorous programme of activities, to full-time residence in Kaduna for the entire duration of the programme.
Fellowships are available for individuals who are working to solve important public problems in creative and powerful ways.
Proficiency in English: Fellows must be fluent in spoken and written English as all programmes will be conducted in English.
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens between 25 to 35 years of age.
Applicants must be graduates of a recognised university, and must have completed the mandatory national youth service.

Value of Award:

A salary and benefits equivalent to that of Special Assistant to the Governor from the Ministry, Department or Agency for which Fellows work.
Accommodation in a nicely furnished one-bedroom apartment for the duration of the programme, and breakfast

According to the report, Universities with a large undergraduate enrolment typically offer a wider range of degree programs, academic stability, popularity, affordability, available facilities and quality of lecturers.

The 10 schools with the most undergraduate students are all Federal Universities – institutions that offer a range of undergraduate courses plus master's and doctoral programs.
